Observations and improvements from last trip to cabin

One of the first things I noted was that Dad’s receiver was covered with books so that it could not breath.  This could of course cause it to burn up.  I also noted a lot of bottles above it that if spilled could also damage the receiver.

I  noted someone had connected the line feed to the pre-amped phono input. That input is of course for vinyl albums played with very low signal level magnetic cartridges.  People who do not know about this equipment should not be making these changes.

Note too, that the shelf above the receiver was warped from the weight of the bottles, and the laminate was coming loose.

Rather than attempt to educate users of the cabin as to how to care for the receiver, I decided to build a shelf to protect it.

I put the warped shelf at the bottom so it can be easily replaced.  Also flipped it so it can warp the other direction.  Could we find a better storage place for these heavy bottles?  Lori put them under the counter by the refrigerator for now.

Note, I also installed a BlueTooth receiver.  One can push the button and pair to their devices.  It is connected to the CD (line in) button on the receiver.  The CD selection button was dusty and at first only played on the right side.  After depressing it several times, it worked in stereo.  It probably would be best to blow it out with compressed air, or perhaps use pot cleaner, but only by someone who knows what they are doing.

I completed the trail  to the lot line marker on the south side of the cabin.  I also created a new trail from the shed to the road by the uninstalled gate.  Both trails could use regular maintenance.

There were trees fallen over in the woods to the north side of the cabin.  I cut up and removed most of them.

This is a pretty cool space now with a path to the crick.  Here is a 1.5 minute  video of how it looked when I was about 2/3 done removing the fallen trees.

There is still some wood to remove from the north side.  I cut it to lengths appropriate for burning in the fire pit.  There is a considerable amount of wood cut to similar length along the new trail I cut to the road on the south side of the cabin.

Lori really enjoys sitting around the fire. Last year I cut down three dead trees and left a large pile of wood cut to size for burning.  None of it was left when we arrived.  It would be nice if people pulled wood out of the woods when they burn from the existing pile.
